SCHOOL’S CURRENT SITUATION
Manuel Lugod Central School (MLCS) is a large public elementary school located in Barangay Poblacion, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. It occupies approximately 10,000 square meters and offers the complete K to 10 Basic Education Curriculum, catering to Kindergarten through Grade 6 learners. The school also implements special programs such as Special Education (SPED) and the Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE), responding to the diverse needs of its learners. MLCS primarily serves children from its catchment areas, including Barangays 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,18-A,19,23,24,24-A and 25. These areas represent a blend of urban and rural communities, with most families engaged in agriculture, market vending, construction, transport services, and other forms of informal labor.
The socio-economic condition of the school community ranges from low to middle income, with some learners experiencing financial hardship that affects their participation and performance in school. Despite these challenges, the school maintains a relatively safe, clean, and orderly environment. Regular clean-up drives and environmental initiatives promote a healthy and learner-friendly atmosphere, although the school continues to face concerns such as limited classroom space, aging infrastructure, and susceptibility to flooding during extreme weather conditions.
The physical environment of MLCS consists of a combination of permanent and semi-permanent structures, some of which are in need of renovation. However, the strong partnership with the community and various stakeholders has allowed the school to sustain improvements and support learner welfare. The immediate community, especially parents and barangay leaders, remains actively involved in school activities, providing assistance in maintaining school facilities and promoting learner attendance.
The school has also developed vital linkages with both government and private institutions. Among its strongest partners are the Barangay Council of Poblacion, which assists in peace and order efforts, and private organizations such as BDO Foundation, AKHRO Fraternity, Guardians Brotherhood, Gaisano Grand Mall, and First Consolidated Bank (FCB). These partners have extended valuable support in the form of construction supplies, manpower, logistical assistance, and event sponsorships. Collectively, these contributions are estimated to be worth more or less ₱250,000.00. These partnerships reflect the school’s commitment to inclusive and collaborative governance, strengthening its capacity to provide quality education for all learners.
